GL Assessment simplifies pupil testing in maths and science

GL Assessment is unveiling Measuring Success, a series of quick and easy assessments for five to 11-year-olds, on stand R11 at The Education Show. Launching in maths and science, Measuring Success will make it simpler for teachers to check their pupils’ progress in these key subjects throughout the year so that lessons can be personalised to support every child in achieving to the best of their ability.

Andrew Thraves, Group Head of Publishing at GL Assessment says: “Assessment for learning is an essential part of the education process and is vital to ensuring no child gets left behind. Measuring Success is a reliable and efficient way of enabling teachers to regularly check their pupils have understood the topic being taught without having to carry out a formal standardised assessment.”

With Measuring Success, teachers will be able to use a range of fully photocopiable unit tests to monitor their pupils’ knowledge regularly. Measuring Success in Science also offers the option of online end of year tests for pupils from Years 3 to 6, saving time for teachers with automatic scoring and providing a wealth of electronic data that can be used to track progress.

Using Measuring Success, teachers will be able to identify any gaps in each child’s understanding of the subject as they progress through the curriculum so that any additional support can be provided quickly to those individuals who need it.

The tests are divided into specific topic areas. The science tests are organised around the units of the QCA scheme of work for science and the maths tests are organised around the structure of the new Framework for Maths. Tests are quick and easy to administer and will provide teachers with suggested national curriculum levels for each child, for each unit and across the year, helping them plan more effective lessons to raise achievement.
